Domin & Kušický

A family winery from the central south Slovakia, located in the town of Veľký Krtíš, established by Ján Domin in 1996. He was a rather important and significant persona of Czechoslovak agriculture as he managed one of the many kolchoz, but the only one running without the usage of chemicals, which was against the norm of the time. He was able to deliver against planned output volumes, so Communists left him operate the way he operated. After the communistic Czechoslovakia fell apart, he was groomed to become the minister of agriculture of the first Slovak government, but quickly realized that politics was not for him. Instead of that he started educational program for farmers and growers, teaching about ecological farming without the usage of chemicals. Those who listen to him got a great success alongside Ján, as he formed one of the first export companies in the new free market focusing on the BIO regime grown produce export to markets of Western Europe.

The winery was formed by purchasing a failing state owned winery, with production building, and vineyards. Family over next couple of years revitalized old, and planted new vineyards, all of them farmed in BIO regime. Domin & Kušický became first BIO certified winery in Slovakia.

Winery is located in volcanic terroir of extinct stratovolcano Sitno. Vineyards grow over bedrock of tuff, rhyolite and andesite. Wine is vinified with selected yeasts from vineyards, with minimal intervention.
