Monology – Krefty-C 2025 South Moravia, Czech Republic | Red

There's a tension at the heart of this wine — and Ondřej Chudoba is honest about it. Low alcohol, fresh fruit, and carbonic lightness on one side; depth, intensity, and real presence on the other. These aren't always easy to reconcile. The temptation with Pinot Noir, especially, is to lean on oak and extraction to manufacture seriousness. Krefty-C refuses that entirely.

Two years of working with different Pinot Noir clones semi-carbonically, observing how each one moves — what colour it throws, how the aromatics develop, whether elegance survives the process — led Ondřej to one conclusion: the Krefty vineyard grows the right fruit. So much so that two weeks before every harvest, the team walks the rows and cuts away part of the crop to concentrate what remains.

The result: 12 days of semi-carbonic maceration with whole clusters, followed by whole-bunch pressing, aged in older oak barrels. The colour sits deeper than you'd expect — closer to a serious rosé than a pale natural red — but the palate is all lightness and fruit, with enough structure to keep things interesting.

This is Pinot Noir as it should be: precise, unforced, and genuinely drinkable.

Drink it: slightly cool, with duck, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, or a cheeseboard that leans towards the softer end.
