Monology – Růžové Hory-B 2025 South Moravia, Czech Republic | Orange / White
Růžové Hory — the Pink Mountains — is a stretch of South Moravian hillside that winds through Přítluky, Rakvice, and Zaječí, all orbiting the slopes of Přítlucká mountain. It's land Karla Olivy has long felt drawn to, even tried to buy into. She didn't get there in the end, but the fruit did — grown organically by her stepbrother and her father on sandy soils planted in 2006.
Two varieties, two very different treatments. The Riesling — a clone prone to developing petrol and mineral depth early — was whole-bunch pressed and kept clean. The Traminer, heady with rose petals and lychee, was foot-trodden and left to macerate on skins and stems for 12 days, building grip and texture to match its natural exuberance. Blended together, then aged across both oak barrels and stainless steel, the wine lands somewhere between orange and white — structured enough to be serious, aromatic enough to be completely seductive.
Drink it: with spiced dishes, aged cheeses, roasted root vegetables, or anything where a conventional white would feel slightly underdressed.
Alcohol: 12.5% abv.
