Hron is a slovak grape variety created 1976 that is a crossing of the Southwest France wine grapes Abouriou and Castets. This grape was introduced to winemakers as a variety to be used for big (in tannins and in alcohol) full-bodied wines, that should be matured in barrique barrels for considerable time. As such Slovakia is full of Hron wines of this type.
David Kušický decided to go against the grain and produced light in alcohol, stainless steel tank matured version that is a polar opposite to general production of other local wineries.
This red wine of deep dark red colour has pepperiness and stemminess on the nose. It shows on the pallet too, where it is mixed with hints of smokiness. Tannins are low (very good option for chilled red wine) and juiciness is high.
Alc. 11.5% abv. Total Sulphur: 29g/L.
